“Son of Sam, ” the story of serial killer David Berkowitz, is coming to the small screen and is being produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse productions. The program will be a six-hour miniseries detailing the crime spree from 1975-77 of the raving mad David Berkowitz and will be filmed by Fox TV Studios. Berkowitz was convicted for the murder of 6 people, and left bizarre notes for the police, claiming he was the “Son of Sam.” He finally confessed in 1977, and claimed he killed because he was possessed bya satanic force.
Berkowitz was serving six life sentences, when in the 90s he claimed that his confession in 1977 wasn’t accurate, and that he was part of a satanic cult that carried out a number of the killings, but this claim was never followed up. The screenplay was written by by Steven Katz, who wrote “The Knick” and “From Earth to the Moon.” In 1999, Spike Lee directed the film “Summer of Sam” about the Berkowitz killings.
