The Gap Does Not Fall into the Gender Pay Chasm

Gap

The Gap was proud to report that its male and female executives are paid equally.  The owner of Old Navy, Banana Republic, Athleta  and Piperlime brands confirmed that men and women are paid at a 1-to-1 ratio. The company was founded by husband and wife team, Donald and Doris Fisher.

Glenn Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of The Gap said that “More than 70% of our workforce is female. Removing gender biases from pay practices is the right thing to do and it is good for business.”

President Barack Obama called for more transparency from companies about what workers earn. While the gender pay gap is narrowing, it is still estimated that women make 82% of men’s wages for the same work. While high-tech companies like Facebook, Google and Twitter focus on their gender and ethnic diversity, they still tend not to disclose what these workers actually earn.

Beth Roberts, Head of Exponential Talent said the Gap is “in the leading edge of  disclosures, but companies are starting to be more transparent.”
