Marilyn Monroe’s red corseted, black beaded dress from “River of No Return” is being sold for a bargain at $600, 000 for those with some extra cash lying around and nothing new to wear. Bargain? Yes, it is. Costume collector and fellow actress Debbie Reynolds bought the dress in 1971, but has had to sell much of her collection, including Monroe’s red sequined headress she wore “Gentleman Prefer Blondes, ” which sold for $1.4 million, and the white dress in “Seven Year Itch” fetched $5 million.
The “River of No Return” red dress is on sale at Bonhams. If you want to not only buy the dress, but recreate the situation in the film, try going to a bar and entertaining customers with your very own rendition of “One Silver Dollar.”
