Granted, we’ve only watched the trailers, but those of us who marveled at Luc Besson’s first work of futuristic pure genius, The Fifth Element (1998), with Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich and Gary Oldman, are salivating for the new dish, Lucy, and it looks amazing.

Lucy is an action-thriller about a woman (Scarlett Johansson) who gets caught in a dark deal which ends up transforming her into a superwoman, a merciless warrior who evolved beyond human understanding. As Professor Morgan Freeman explains it, Lucy has been able to utilize her full brain capacity, and now she’s unstoppable.
We’ve loved all of Besson’s heroines: Anne Parillaud as the juvenile delinquent turned secret agent in La Femme Nikita (1990); The 9-year-old Natalie Portman as Mathilda, in The Professional (1994); Milla Jovovich as the outerworld goddess Leeloo in The Fifth Element (1998); and now Scarlett Johansson in Lucy.
Universal has moved up the Lucy opening two weeks, to July 25.
Until then, here’s a clip and a trailer. We’re very excited, the cats and I. Between us, we’ve watched 5th Element 300 times (because every time a cat watches a movie it’s like 10 human screenings).
