Diane Von Furstenberg, the renowned international fashion designer, will be adding some designer chic to the Sergei Brin’s favorite project, Google Glasses, with a range of fifteen frames to be released towards the end of June.
Google announced the impending arrival of the “DVF | Made for Glass” collection, which is made up from five new spectacle frames and eight new sunglass frames, all of them designed for women.
This latest collection is not the first time that Diane von Furstenberg has promoted the Google Glass concept , using Google Glasses to add some drama to the unveiling of her 2012 collection. Sergei Brin obviously enjoyed the credibility and chic that being associated with one of the world’s leading fashion designers brought, and apparently approached Ms. Diane von Furstenberg to design the frames, to add levels of glamour to what many people regard as being a project for geeks only.

Ms. von Furstenberg’s collection will be available for sale from the 23rd of June online at the official Glass store or through Net-A-Porter.com, a fashion website targeted towards women.
The date of the launch of the “DVF | Made for Glass” collection has been set to coincide with the simultaneous launch of Google’s Glass main frame collection, which was not specifically designed for fastest conscious females, and will be marketed exclusively on the male fashion website MrPorter.com.
Google glasses first became available at the 2012 Google I/O conference, with the first pairs of detaining framed glasses only available to those who attended the conference. Since then the Google Glass concept has been slowly catching on, although currently only being marketed in the United States, with a pair costing around $1, 500.
Anyone willing to invest in our set of DVF-designed prescription frames will need to pay out around for the privilege $1, 725 , while those looking for sunshades will be to save themselves around $100, with each of the designs coming with the distinctive small screen attached to the right-hand arm.
Diane Von Fürstenberg (née Halfin) was born in Brussels, Belgium to Jewish parents. She initially rose to prominence in 1969, when she married Prince Egon of Fürstenberg , thus becoming Princess Diane of Fürstenberg. Wanting to make a name for herself for something other than being a Prince’s wife, Von Fürstenberg began designing women’s clothes. In 1974, she created the wrap dress, which came to symbolize power and independence for an entire generation of women.
By 1976, she had sold over a million of the dresses, launched a cosmetic line, and was featured on the cover of Newsweek. The accompanying article declared her “the most marketable woman since Coco Chanel.”
In 1997, after a hiatus from fashion , Von Fürstenberg re-launched her company and re-introduced the wrap dress, which gained traction with an entirely new generation of women.
In 2005 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) for her impact on fashion, and one year later was elected the CFDA’s president, an office she continues to hold. In this role, she has dedicated herself to fostering emerging talent and helping to establish the Design Piracy Prohibition Act, which protects designers from counterfeit reproductions of their work.
