Israeli start up MediSafe has been awarded a $100, 000 prize from the Qprize Regional Competition of Qualcomm Ventures in the field of technological innovations. The company is now entered in the competition’s finals to be held in San Francisco in June where the winner will be awarded an additional $150, 000.
According to MediSafe, its mission is to help people integrate healthier behavior into their daily lives with a unique cloud-synced mobile medication management system. They also want to enhance the ability of a person’s family and friends to act as a support group and ensure that a person receives the proper doses of his medications at the right times.
Last week MediSafe launched its version 3.0 for iOS and Android systems alike. The app is linked to a cloud database and allows doctors to know a patient’s prescription drug history and what medications to provide. The company says that this allows doctors to send patients automatic prescriptions which will increase the quality of their medical care.
The app is available for free download from sources such as Google and iTunes. It is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, German, French, Hebrew, and Arabic.
MediSafe CEO Omri Shor said about his product, “Every 0.6 seconds, someone takes a pill after being reminded by MediSafe. As we partner with more healthcare providers around the world, and release MediSafe versions with more ways for patients and doctors to communicate about medication management, we’re improving health outcomes for exponentially more people. Becoming a stronger bridge between patients and health providers also helps answer the stubborn riddle why people don’t always take their medication as they should.”
Omri Shor decidced to found MediSafe after his father, a diabetic, suffered from an accidental double dose of insulin two years ago. He started the company, a family owned business, with his brother.
Shor’s previous experience is in sales and marketing, having been a sales team leader with the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot. Shor received an MBA in Entrepreneurship & Strategy from The College of Management – Academic Studies (COMAS) in Rishon LeZion, Israel.
