The Travel Weekly Group , which is led by founder and Chairman Clive Jacobs, has now completed the acquisition of Kingley Event Management and its portfolio of travel industry events, including the “British Travel and Hospitality Industry Hall of Fame. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

With the acquisition of Kingley Event Management, and the earlier purchase of the major event “Agent Achievement Awards”, from Kingley in 2012, this now extends the Travel Weekly Group’s event portfolio to more than 50 different travel industry events each year.Travel Weekly Group is a business-to-business, or B2B, publishing and events company, serving the travel industry with several specialized titles. Its flagship trade publication Travel Weekly, and its associated UK related website www.travelweekly.co.uk,  are the primary go-to weekly sources for British travel agents. Travel Weekly also has a related US website,  wwww.travelweekly.com serving the industry there.The company also owns gazetteers.com, an information service for travel agents,   Travolution, a news provider for the digital travel industry and Aspire Travel Club, a media brand for the luxury travel market.

Duncan Horton, the Travel Weekly Group Chief Executive said after completing the Kingley transaction,  “Travel Weekly Group is the natural home for the British Travel Industry Hall of Fame. Our flagship titles Travel Weekly, and Caterer and Hotelkeeper , are both clear leaders in their respective sectors, and their long-standing credibility will only add further distinction to the event and those who are inducted each year.”

As part of the Kingley deal, Travel Weekly Group will also acquire travel industry digital news publisher e-tid.com and its database of 11, 000 newsletter recipients.
Horton added with respect to e-tid.com: “The acquisition of e-tid.com will continue to enhance our digital position as we look to define niche audiences and deliver tailor-made news services across all our brands.”

He then concluded,  “We are showing excellent year-on-year growth across print, digital and event lines,  and the purchase of Kingley Event Management and e-tid.com will only serve to bolster our market-leading proposition.”

Michael East,  Managing Director of Kingley and e-tid.com, said, “Our events and the e-tid newsletter have both been very successful businesses over the years and I know that they will fit very well within the Travel Weekly Group.”

East then added that the consulting business of Eastcastle and Argyle Recruitment, which they also operate, continues, as does event management on behalf of other companies,  now trading in the name of a new company, Gisby-East.

The up-coming British Travel Industry Hall of Fame takes place this year at The Savoy hotel on 24 April,  2014.

About Clive Jacobs

Clive Jacobs, who left school at 16 Clive’s and his early career included jobs on building sites, and even the fish department at Selfridges. His started out in the travel and leisure sector industry as a messenger for a travel agency. He went on to become Managing Director of his own flight company at the age of 21.

In 1987 he founded Holiday Autos with two partners as the first holiday car rental broker in Europe,  which he built up into a major international business after buying out his partners in 1995. He eventually sold the company in 2003 to lastminute.com for US$70 million (£43 million).

In 1997 Clive was awarded the World Travel Market Global award for his outstanding contribution to the UK Travel Industry and in 1999 he was voted Director of the Year by PWC and Decision magazine. In 2000 he was presented with a World Travel Market Tribute 21 award, an accolade given to 21 key individuals who had been instrumental in bringing pioneering changes to the travel industry over the previous 21 years.

The Travel Weekly Group was established in 2009 when Clive Jacobs bought Travel Weekly and its associated brands from Reed Business Information. Clive Jacobs is also majority owner of sister publication, Caterer & Hotelkeeper.

Given his own background as a self-made businessman, Clive also devotes time aside from day to day business to mentor young entrepreneurs.

In private life Clive is married to Suzanne, they have a daughter Martha, aged 13 and their family home is in Devon.

He is actively involved in charity work and is a Patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust. His other passions include shooting, skiing, collecting and drinking fine wines.
