Michael Klinger captain of the Gloucestershire cricket team is a man with a price on his head-  10 million Indian Rupees to be exact -worth  today around $150, 000.

That’s the minimum price that his agents will be asking when he appears alongside another 514 of the world’s top cricket players whose services will be up for auction in the city of Bangalore in India in the next couple of days.

Michael already has some experience of playing in the Indian Premier League, now in its seventh season, having turned out for Kochi Tuskers Kerala cricket team during the 2011 tournament. To give an indication of the increasing popularity of the Indian Premier league  Klinger was one of only  350 players who went under the hammer for the Auction in 2011, with the Kochi Tuskers Kerala paying just 5 million Indian Rupees  ($ 75, 000) for his services.

Since then Klinger has restricted his cricket playing activities to the United Kingdom apart from a brief spell with the Adelaide Strikers playing in the Australian Big Bash tournament in the 2013 season.

Despite his excellent form in the UK, Michael Klinger is not guaranteed a place on one of the eight teams who will be  participating in this year’s Indian Premier league, with the rules of the tournament disallowing anyone of the teams having any more than nine non-Indian players in their squad for the tournament, which begins at the beginning of April and is due to last for around two months, culminating with a tournament final to be held  in Kolkatta on the 26th of  May.

Yet Klinger, who has shown excellent form over the last few seasons, topping the batting averages both the English County championship  as well as in Adelaide when he appeared there. Form which makes his 10 million Indian Rupees reserve price seem like something of a bargain.  However, on the downside for Gloucester, if Klinger’s services are taken up by one of the eight IPL franchises, enabling him missing a major part of the English cricket season, if the team that signs him makes it  all the way to the final.

For cricket lovers the world over, all eyes will be in Bangalore on February the 12th and 13th  when the auctions for the 2014 Indian Premier League (IPL) player get underway, with the first stage being when 16 players valued in the top category of 20 million Indian rupees go up for grabs.

Michael Klinger began his career in first class cricket in season 2008/2009 playing with the South Australia Redbacks based in the city of Adelaide where he was born.

Klinger’s excellent form in the 2011 Indian Premier League captured the attention of a number of cricket scouts throughout the world, and in December 2012, he was eventually signed by English county Gloucestershire.

Michael made a few guest appearances for Worstershire at the start of the 2011 season, enough to impress Gloucestershire into signing him as not only their sole overseas player for the 2013 season, but also to immediately take up the role of team captain.

During his spell at the club  Michael Klinger has succeeded in scoring over 1000 runs in the County Championship, including 6 centuries, as well as another 1000 runs in the increasingly popular limited over matches.
