Susan Wojcicki, has been Senior Vice President of Advertising for Google just about forever, and was indeed the 16th employee ever hired at Google. As advertising is at the heart of the profitability of the company it is an important job.
As a firmly entrenched, and completely brilliant, member of Google’s upper management team Susan has now been promoted to become CEO of Google’s YouTube division. This is intended to be a major transformative role, as Google seeks to rapidly increase YouTube’s penetration and effectiveness.

Wojcicki has confirmed the switch herself in a Twitter tweet (sic!) as follows:
(Excited to join #YouTube – wonderful team, amazing community & inspiring creators. I look forward to watching a lot more videos during work. – Susan Wojcicki (@SusanWojcicki)February 05, 2014)
Google’s CEO Larry Page confirmed the move as well, to web site TechCrunch, saying as follows:
“Salar and the whole YouTube team have built something amazing. YouTube is a billion person global community curating videos for every possibility. Anyone uploading their creative content can reach the whole world and even make money. Like Salar, Susan has a healthy disregard for the impossible and is excited about improving YouTube in ways that people will love”.
With the change of leadership YouTube’s current leader Salar Kamangar is being shifted temporarily sideways, exactly as Google did with Andy Rubin, to dream up his own new initiative. With his batteries refreshed Rubin came up with a big push into robotics, so lets be patient and see what Kamangar will do next.
