Opmed.ai is a new Israeli startup that offers a platform the firm says will optimize the operational capacity of operating rooms using AI-driven software. The company raised $15 million in Series A funding for its new medical scheduling platform. The news comes just days after Opmed released its Proactive Block Release, which it calls a “game changing” feature.

Co-founded in 2022 by Dr. Mor Brokman Meltzer, Avi Paz, and Prof. Baruch Barzel, Opmed.ai provides an healthcare optimization engine utilizing AI and network science to enhance healthcare scheduling and resource allocation, starting with operating rooms. By analyzing billions of permutations and healthcare-specific factors within the OR’s complex network, the company empowers medical centers and health systems to optimize resource allocation across multiple locations, predict disruptions, and adapt to change, leading to generation of an additional $1M+ revenue per operating room and reduction of costs by more than $500K per year on average.

Opmed says it wants every operating room, infusion center, and cath lab to “operate efficiently and effectively, using intelligent schedules and optimized plans to maximize every resource that is available.” The company’s goal is to make every minute of every resource count, and in doing so, enable healthcare professionals to treat more patients and make a real difference in people’s lives.

Opmed said that Proactive Block Release is set to “revolutionize block time utilization in operating rooms, ensuring that every minute counts towards enhancing patient care and maximizing efficiency.” The feature includes integrated communication tools that enable OR managers to easily contact surgeons about their block time forecasts. This direct line of communication ensures that any potential adjustments to the schedule can be handled swiftly and efficiently.

“This round marks a significant milestone in that it provides us with the ability to rapidly scale an innovative technology, which has demonstrated success since 2021 and meet the demand that we’re already seeing from hospitals across the U.S.,” said Dr. Mor Brokman Meltzer, Co-Founder and CEO of Opmed.ai. “Our mission is to support hospitals grappling with staff shortages and other critical issues by providing them a less labor-intensive, more effective way to perform at their best, and that’s exactly what this round will enable us to accomplish.”
