Spacecom, the final frontier! O.K, so maybe it’s not exactly like Star Trek. And, no, they do not offer super rich people space tourism opportunities like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk are doing. But Spacecom does handle satellites and the company just signed an extension of a contract with Hungary’s Magyar Telekom, worth $8.6 million. Spacecom has also entered into a new partnership with Canada’s NuRAN Wireless Inc.
Spacecom is a satellite services provider and owner-operator of the AMOS satellite fleet. T-Home DTH (direct-to-home) service, the leading DTH provider in Hungary and a brand of Magyar Telekom, the principal provider of telecom services in Hungary use its Amos satellite services. There are a number of Amos satellites currently up in space and each one can service different geographic location. Hungary is located within the range of Spacecom’s Amos-4 and Amos-7 satellites.

Oren Tepper, Spacecom’s SVP Global Sales, explained that Spacecom and Magyar Telecom have had a relationship for more than a decade now and he sees the extension as a vote of confidence in his company. “This extension agreement demonstrates that our capabilities, professionalism and value delivered are vital elements contributing to T-Home’s DTH business future,” said Tepper. “I am excited and look forward to a great continuation of our partnership in the coming years.”
As for the deal with Canada’s NuRAN Wireless Inc., it is a strategic cooperation agreement which includes a $3.2 million investment (CAD 4 million) in the Canadian communications company. Spacecom is acquiring 9.3% of NuRAN’s equity, subject to the contract’s conditions. The partnership agreement grants Spacecom exclusive rights to provide satellite capacity and bandwidth for all future NuRAN African operations. Africa is covered by the Amos-17 satellite. Spacecom calls this an advanced, digital satellite whose characteristics deliver “significant” advantages for Africa. Spacecom says that it could bring in as much as $3 million in new annual revenue from the new partnership.
Dan Zajicek, Spacecom CEO, said that he is pleased with the arrangement, and proud about it too. “This initiative represents an additional strategic step by Spacecom to bridge the continent’s digital divide. The advanced, unique capabilities of AMOS-17, alongside NuRAN Wireless’s solutions, demonstrate Spacecom’s obligation to provide services in Africa’s regions with limited infrastructure. We look forward to strengthening and expanding our African operations by emphasizing solutions for MNOs,” said Zajicek in a statement.
