Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes Stolen

Ashes of independence leader Mahatma Gandhi were stolen from the Bapu Bhawan memorial in central India on Wednesday. The thieves also wrote the word ‘traitor’ over a poster of his portrait on his 150th birthday.

Mahatma Gandhi was s assassin by a Hindu extremist in 1948, one year after independence from Britain in 1947. He was 78.

Gandhi who is also known as the “father of the nation” led a non-violent resistance movement against British rule in India, inspiring people all over the world.

But till these days Hindu extremists blame him for having betrayed the country by being an advocate of Hindu-Muslim unity, and the bloodshed that led the division of India which created Pakistan as a result.

Because Gandhi’s unique place in India history, he was cremated after his death, but his remains were not scattered in the Ganges river, in accordance with Hindu belief. Some were kept and sent to various memorials – including the one in the Bapu Bhawan.

Some Hindu hardliners view Gandhi as a traitor for his advocacy of Hindu-Muslim unity.
