Uber developing scooters and robotic bikes, Report

The company will try to build bicycles and scooters that can reach the user and drive independently to the loading points

Uber has begun developing scooters and robotic bikes and the company is recruiting engineers for a dedicated robotics team to run within its Jump division; According to the British Telegraph.

In the past year, scooter and electric bicycle rental services have become popular, and Uber has become a major player in the field after acquiring the startup Jump. Along with ease of use and convenience for the consumer, these services require a complex logistics system. It is based on a cooperative economy for collecting and loading vehicles at the end of the day, and dispersing them in areas of demand during working hours. For the user, there may be situations in which nearby vehicles are not available.

The development of Uber will solve these difficulties and create bicycles and scooters that can travel to a loading point themselves, distribute themselves in areas of demand and reach users without vehicles. According to the Telegraph, the development is at an initial stage and Uber is still hiring engineers for a team called Micromobility Robotics, which will operate within the Jump division.

The company has not released any additional information, but according to its recruitment page, the development is designed to “improve the safety, the passenger experience and the operational efficiency of our cooperative scooters and electric bikes through robotics technologies.”
