A tiny house firm, Kasita, which build homes with an industrial manufacturing process, has already received approval to start building in California and Nevada. Kasita also plans to start offering its homes as stackable modular units, which it will begin to build in February.
The stackable units will cost around $99,000 and span 400 square feet.
Martyn Hoffmann, Kasita CEO, told Bisnow “It’s really a way to alleviate the housing crisis, not through affordable housing, but to increase the housing stock,” Hoffmann said.
Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York, said he plans to set up a contest for developers to build tiny homes on small city-owned lots
