Australian Police Crack Mystery SOS Case

Who left a large sized SOS signal made out of stones laid on the ground, found in a remote area of Western Australia?

A helicopter pilot saw, from above, the sign in a field last month, indicating that someone is in trouble, or missing.

Police now believe it was likely made by a man named Robert and a woman, who were stranded nearby in 2013.

The police have received a call from a man named John, who identified himself as Robert’s brother. He said he saw an article about the case on the BBC.

According to John, his brother, and a woman friend were sailing a yacht that was later found stranded at Swift Bay, about 300 miles (500km) from the city of Broome.

According to the BBC, the couple boarded an escape raft which “was attacked by a pair of crocodiles” but Robert and the woman made it to shore safely and then built the SOS signal on the ground.

John said his brother found some fresh water so they could drink, and eventually, they were rescued by another passing yacht.

Police told the BBC they have not yet been able to speak with Robert to verify this because at the moment he is reportedly on a boat sailing somewhere in the Mediterranean.

But it seems photos from 2013 showing the same SOS signal were provided to the investigators. Now police are waiting to talk directly with Robert when he comes back home, just to close the file.
