Senator Charles Schumer has called for a full Congressional investigation into findings that the Russian government had interfered in this year’s Presidential elections.
The incoming Senate Minority Leader from New York issued a statement to that effect this morning, The Washington Post reports. Senator Schumer made the call in response the revelation that the CIA has determined that the Russians intervened in the 2016 elections to the benefit of Donald Trump. However, no claim has been made that either Mr. Trump nor anyone from his campaign worked with the Russians or knew what they were doing.

Charles Schumer said that the CIA’s findings were “stunning and not surprising.”
The Post cited a senior U.S. official briefed on the intelligence presentation made to U.S. senators as saying, “It is the assessment of the intelligence community that Russia’s goal here was to favor one candidate over the other, to help Trump get elected. That’s the consensus view.”
