Rahm Emanuel, the Democratic mayor of Chicago, has just fired the first shot across the bow of the incoming Donald Trump Presidency. Emanuel has declared Chicago to be a sanctuary city for undocumented immigrants and said that it will not aid in any deportations.

This comes just two days after Donald Trump declared on “60 Minutes” that he will definitely be keeping his campaign pledge on immigration and that he plans to immediately deport at least 2 million people as soon as he takes office.
Mayor Emanuel held a press conference on Monday where he was joined by both state and federal lawmakers. The Chicago Mayor proclaimed, “To all those who are, after Tuesday’s election, very nervous and filled with anxiety, you are safe in Chicago, you are secure in Chicago and you are supported in Chicago.”

And then Rahm Emanuel added, “Chicago has in the past been a sanctuary city. It always will be a sanctuary city.”
It is not surprising that Mr. Emanuel is taking this position considering his past. Emanuel was a senior adviser to President Bill Clinton as well as the White House Chief of Staff under President Barack Obama. Rahm Emanuel was also the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee when he served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2003-2009.
The world now waits to hear how Donald Trump will react. How will he attack Rahm Emanuel on Twitter?
