“U.S. non-profit organizations lost $6.5 billion in donations in 2015 because Americans continue to resist donating through mobile devices, ” said Jonathan Ben-Dor, CEO and founder. “Most Americans”, he added, “being asked to donate receive that request on their mobile device. But Americans are 64 percent less likely to make a donation on their smartphone than on a desktop computer. The result is that more Americans than ever before are choosing not to give to charity.”
In its 2016 Mobile Giving Report, PocketCause points out that while 2015 saw an overall rise in mobile giving in the U.S. (from 9.5 percent of online giving to 13.8 percent), mobile giving trails far behind its potential, largely because of the difficulty of donating from a smartphone.
“More than 84 percent of U.S. charities do not have a mobile optimized donation form, so that even mobile donors who are open to using their devices to give are deterred. Since online giving is generally an immediate response to an emotional appeal, the chances that donors will be patient enough to re-open the appeal on their desktop is extremely low, ” said Ben-Dor. “Both Americans and non-profits are losing out on the opportunity to partner together for good – simply because non-profit technology has not kept pace with the mobile revolution.”
