Ayelet Shaked, Israel’s Right-wing justice minister, has been accused of judicial interference and racial incitement after posting a video on social media as the country’s highest court considered a new law on African asylum seekers.
Ms Shaked wrote on Facebook that she would post a new video every two hours showing how southern Tel Aviv had become “an official detention facility for infiltrators” until the supreme court issued a ruling on legislation allowing the long-term incarceration of illegal migrants.
She then posted footage that purported to show a black migrant attacking a local resident. In fact, the film depicted a scene from another country – possibly Turkey – rather than Israel, forcing Ms Shaked to remove the post and publicly admit her mistake.
