Dave Portnoy, the man known for making a fortune from sports talk on the Barstool Sports platform that he founded, is now an expert on international relations, at least when it comes to Friday’s spat between Donald Trump and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelensky had a public argument with both Trump and Vice President Vance during a press conference in the Oval Office over whether or not Russian President Vladimir Putin can be trusted to keep his promises. President Trump and Vice President JD Vance criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy over the incident, accusing him of showing disrespect and further straining ties with Kyiv’s most crucial wartime ally. A U.S. official stated that Zelenskiy was asked to leave. Meanwhile, a highly anticipated agreement between Ukraine and the United States to co-develop Ukraine’s vast natural resources—seen by Kyiv and its European allies as a potential step toward improving relations—was left unsigned and uncertain.
When it first happened, Dave Portnoy tweeted about how entertaining the dispute was, comparing it to reality television.

“I don’t care what side of the aisle you are on this is fascinating to watch unfold in front of camera like it’s a Bravo show,” he wrote. “Just fascinating to see world leaders basically arguing with each other with, honestly, the fate of like World War III … kind of in the balance, in some respects.”
On Sunday, however, after he had a couple of days to think about it, Portnoy released a video in which he took Donald Trump’s side and complementing the President for how he handled the dispute in front of the cameras saying, “I think Trump and [Vice President] Vance handled this as well as they could.”
“We’re not just going to get steamrolled by Zelensky at the expense of getting a deal done,” he added, using the first person “we” to imply that what the Ukrainian president did was an offense to all Americans”
Not concerned with the idea that President Trump might be appeasing Vladimir Putin, Dave Portnoy said, “If that means that we have to throw a couple of flowers at Putin, then so be it.”
“You can say whatever you want about Trump. He takes signs of disrespect personally,” Portnoy explained. “He’s very much about, you know, respecting other things. So, Zelenskyy shows up, and he’s wearing his sweatshirt and his customary outfit, which is his way of essentially saying, ‘I’m at war. I don’t have time to play politics or any other stuff.’
“For me, this is just stupid. We get you’re at war, but you’re coming to meet a new administration,” he added. ” And it’s just a sign of disrespect not to show the same level of respect (in) the Oval Office that Trump clearly thinks it deserves.”
