On his appointment to San Francisco Mayor Elect Daniel Lurie’s transition team, Sam Altman released a statement saying, “I’m excited to help the city I love, and where OpenAI was started, as it begins its next chapter with Mayor-elect Lurie stepping into his new role.”
Daniel Lurie is a prominent American philanthropist and the mayor-elect of San Francisco. In the 2024 election, Lurie defeated incumbent Mayor London Breed, becoming the first political outsider to win a San Francisco mayoral race in over a century. Lurie’s administration is expected to focus on revitalizing San Francisco and addressing its pressing challenges, with a particular emphasis on public safety, homelessness, and economic development.
