CrowdStrike, an American cybersecurity technology company, is acquiring the Israeli startup Adaptive Shield, which provides SaaS Security Posture Management (SSPM) services. While the terms of the deal have not yet been revealed, Israel’s Calcalist reported that it is for $300 million.
Founded at the end of 2019 by Maor Bin and Jony Shlomoff Adaptive Shield says that its SaaS Security Posture Management Suite (SSPM) removes the burden and risk of SaaS misconfigurations by providing “deep visibility and remediation for potential risks caused by misconfigurations and misappropriated privileges.” In September, SSPM was named one of the “4 Must-Have Technologies That Made the Gartner Hype Cycle for Cloud Security, 2021.”
Adaptive Shield explains that even though SaaS providers have been improving their native security capabilities and controls, each has its own security model and settings. This makes maintaining a consistent policy across platforms, business units and user groups an uphill battle.

Adaptive Shield delivers the industry’s most complete security posture management and threat protection across SaaS identities, misconfigurations and data, stopping SaaS breaches. As an integrated component of the CrowdStrike Falcon® cybersecurity platform, Adaptive Shield will equip CrowdStrike with the most advanced capabilities to stop identity-based attacks across all aspects of modern hybrid cloud environments. Customer benefits will include:
Cloud exploitation incidents surged by a staggering 110% last year, while identity-based attacks continue their upward trajectory. A concerning trend is the increasing prevalence of malware-free attacks, with 75% of initial access breaches now bypassing traditional security measures.
Modern adversaries, often referred to as “cross-domain,” exploit vulnerabilities across both on-premises and cloud environments. By targeting identity and cloud infrastructure, they can gain unauthorized access to sensitive data and critical systems. From on-premises Active Directory to cloud-based identity providers and the ever-expanding landscape of SaaS applications, these attackers have a multitude of attack vectors at their disposal.
The complexity of hybrid cloud environments, coupled with often disconnected security tools, creates significant protection gaps. This makes it increasingly difficult for organizations to effectively prevent and detect identity-based threats.
SaaS is poised to become the dominant category of cloud computing in 2024, accounting for over 40% of public cloud spending. While SaaS providers offer security controls, organizations remain responsible for managing configurations and securing access. In today’s complex environments, with hundreds of SaaS applications each having unique access controls and identity configurations, security teams struggle to maintain visibility into user access, data exposure, and active threats, even with specialized SaaS protection solutions.
“CrowdStrike was built to tackle the toughest cybersecurity challenges, and we drive relentless innovation based on what our customers need to stay ahead of modern threats,” said George Kurtz, CEO and founder, CrowdStrike. “As SaaS and AI adoption grows, every new application brings additional complexity and the risk of misconfigurations across human and non-human accounts that create openings for sophisticated attacks. With the acquisition of Adaptive Shield, CrowdStrike will continue to set the standard for identity-based protection in the cloud, delivering best-in-class SaaS protection from the Falcon platform.”
