Apparently, Jake Gyllenhaal has just 20/1250 vision. He obviously wears contact lenses. But when Gyllenhaal wears glasses they are of the “Coke bottle” variety, meaning they have really big lenses.
20/1250 vision signifies significantly below average visual acuity. In simpler terms, it means you can only see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision can see from 1250 feet away. This level of vision is considered legally blind in most countries. It would significantly impact daily activities such as driving, reading, and recognizing faces.

“I’ve never known anything else. When I can’t see in the morning, before I put on my glasses, it’s a place where I can be with myself,” Jake Gyllenhaal, whose mother was Jewish, told the Hollywood Reporter.
The 43-year-old actor uses his blindness to prepare for roles sometimes, like the 2015 film “Southpaw” where he played a boxer.
Jake Gyllenhaal’s first role came when he was just ten years old, playing Billy Crystal’s son in the movie “City Slickers.” His latest movie is “Road House,” a remake of the 1989 classic that starred the late Patrick Swayze.
About his new movie, Gyllenhaal said, “There are movies I’ve made that people have said to me, ‘Man, intense. That was great. It was tough. And there have been many different times where I’m like, ‘Wait, what’s it like to make a movie and be like, ‘That was just fun?’ Road House was definitely that.”
