Apex.AI, an Israeli security startup, which has backing from the founder of Open.AI Sam Altman, emerged from stealth this week with a $7 million Seed round of funding co-led by Sequoia Capital and Index Ventures.

Apex.AI develops “breakthrough safe,” certified, developer-friendly, and scalable software for mobility systems. The firm’s software products are based on proven open-source software, such as ROS or Eclipse iceoryx. Apex launched its award-winning first product Apex.Grace, formerly known as Apex.OS in 2020 and have taken it through certification in record time for launch in 2021.

“Apex was founded with the mission of empowering security and AI teams to enable the secure and swift AI adoption within world-class organizations,” said Matan Derman, Co-Founder and CEO at Apex. “During the company’s founding, we consulted with dozens of executives to understand their needs and discovered a reluctance to adopt advanced AI due to security concerns. Apex is positioned to change all that, playing a key role in helping organizations secure AI models and applications and enabling them to leverage the power of AI safely.”

“There is a whole new segment of threats and risks using AI models. It starts with data leakage and problems on the data side. It goes to privacy, compliance and what comes back into an organization,”, Apex’s CEO, told Reuters.

“We started Apex to build the extra layers of security that’s needed for enterprises to adopt (AI),” he said. “We will try to take this as far as we can.”

Sam Altman has been named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine and one of the “Best Young Entrepreneurs in Technology” by Businessweek. He is also the founder of the Long Term Future Fund, a venture capital fund that invests in companies working to solve long-term problems like climate change and pandemics.
