Cyera to Hit $1.5 Billion Unicorn Valuation for Cloud Data Security

Cyera

Cyera co-founders Yotam Segev, CEO, and Tamar Bar-Ilan, CTO

Cyera, an Israeli startup offering cloud data security, is set to become a unicorn, tripling its valuation to $1.5 billion. Business Insider reported that this will come in a new round of funding in which Cyera expects to raise as much as $200 million.

As enterprises increase their adoption of cloud services, they must ensure that data is democratized to deliver insights and secured against new and rising threats. Cyera’s data security platform discovers, classifies, and develops deep context of sensitive data on top of Google Cloud’s secure, trusted infrastructure.
Israel Startup Nation is best known for its cyber security firms. And everything is going into the cloud these days.

Cloud data security refers to the practices and technologies used to protect information stored in the cloud. It encompasses safeguarding data at rest (stored in the cloud), in transit (moving between the cloud and your devices), and in use (being accessed or processed).

Cyera was co-founded in 2021 by Yotam Segev, CEO, and Tamar Bar-Ilan, CTO. The two met over a decade ago in the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) elite Talpiot leadership academy and served together in the IDF’s Unit 8200 where they founded, built, and ran the cloud security division. Cyera has already made inroads with multiple Fortune 500 customers and has 50 employees worldwide, including Israel and the US.

Cyera says that its platform can be connected to a company’s cloud footprint in minutes, regardless of the underlying data technologies, and map all datastores in the cloud. From there, Cyera parses and classifies this data (including PII) and then surfaces the highest priority risks for remediation with suggested courses of action.

Where existing ‘cloud security’ solutions merely manage the security posture of cloud infrastructure, Cyera boasts that its service provides visibility, intelligence and actionable insights to remediate potential security risks.

In February, Cyera’s cloud-native data security platform became available on Google Cloud Marketplace.

“Google Cloud customers can now directly access our platform and discover where all of their data is, if it’s secure, and who has access to it, nearly instantaneously,” said Yotam Segev, co-founder and CEO, Cyera at the time. “We offer a compelling way for enterprises to quickly gain visibility and control of their data across Google Cloud and all cloud environments, improve their security posture against cyber threats, and achieve compliance with data privacy regulations. These are no longer ‘nice to have’ advantages; these are quickly evolving into necessities.”
