Mark Zuckerberg May Have Cost UFC Champ Alexander Volkanovski the Title

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Meta/Facebook, may fancy himself as some kind of macho fighter, but Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fans are not happy with him right now. This is because Mark Zuckerberg crashed a fight between UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski against challenger Ilia Topuria. The fight was for the UFC 298 Featherweight title, which Topuria won in an upset, and unlike with some competitions out there, the UDF fights are for real.

Some are wondering if Mark Zuckerberg went to the UFC fights because he still expects to take on Elon Musk in an MMA type bought in the near future.

However, Zuckerberg’s attendance, some believe, distracted the champion and may have caused his loss.

UFC Bantamweight fighter Merab Dvalishvili told MMA Fighting that he might have even won his bout sooner had Mark Zuckerberg not been.

Dvalishvili told the publication, “He [Zuckerberg] did text me a couple of days ago that he would be at the fights, but he told me don’t tell no one. I keep a secret, of course. I know he was there and as soon as I go there I saw him and I say ‘Hi’ and ‘Good to see you in person.”

“During the rounds, he was telling me times, ‘30 seconds left,’ he was coaching me,” added Merab Dvalishvili. “He was my fourth corner tonight. So it’s just conversation and then when I got [his challenger Cejudo] in the choke, the choke was tight, but I got too excited. I was looking at Mark Zuckerberg and I had too much fun. Maybe I should focus to finish. You know, I’m just a fighter, I’m free, that’s what you do, that was a fun, good, positive conversation.”

All this comes after Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk challenged one another to an ultimate fighting match – or at least a “cage match” – back in June. The challenge came as Facebook rolled out its own service to challenge Twitter called threads.

First, in a Tweet, or an X, or whatever we are supposed to call it now, Elon Musk wrote “Zuck v Musk fight will be live-streamed on X,” and added, “All proceeds will go to charity for veterans.”

So, Elon Musk, who claims to have been trained in Kyokushin karate, taekwondo, judo, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, is ready for a fight. On Thursday he bragged on Twitter, “I have this great move that I call “The Walrus”, where I just lie on top of my opponent & do nothing.”

For his part, Mark Zuckerberg has posted videos of himself learning jiu-jitsu on Facebook’s Instagram platform.

When a user replied to Elon Musk’s Twitter comments about Zuckerberg by warning the Tesla founder that the Facebook founder now knows jiu-jitsu, Musk responded by saying, “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol.”

And, of course, Mark Zuckerberg picked up the proverbial glove with a pic of the Tweet which he captioned, “send me location.”
