Elon Musk, the mercurial billionaire owner of Twitter, is expected to arrive in Israel for a visit where he will meet with the President of Israel Isaac Herzog on Tuesday. Musk is also expected to meet with members of the families of Israelis who have been held hostage by the terrorist Hamas group in Gaza for more than seven weeks, since the barbaric Hamas attack of October 7 in which more than 1,200 innocent people were murdered, including entire families.

“In their meeting, the president will emphasize the need to act to combat rising antisemitism online,” said President Herzog’s office in a statement.

Elon Musk will also meet with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and tour the Israeli communities near the border with Gaza that were devastated on October.

The visit comes as a surprise to many after Elon Musk has been widely criticized for allowing the proliferation of anti-semitic posts, as well as outright lies about Israel during the ongoing war in Gaza, on his Twitter social media platform. Musk has argued that he is concerned with freedom of speech so he does not wish to censor the posts on Twitter. But his critics have argued that as the operator of the world’s most used messaging platform through which countless people around the world receive news updates, he has a moral obligation to do something about its use for hate speech.

And Elon Musk has himself personally agreed with antisemitic posts on Twitter.

One such post read, “Jewish communities have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them. I’m deeply disinterested in giving the tiniest shit now about western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities that support flooding their country don’t exactly like them too much.”

To that Elon Musk responded, “You have said the actual truth.”

Also, a few weeks ago Elon Musk pledged to step in and offer internet services to Gaza from his Starlink, which would help the terror group Hamas continue with its killing of innocent civilians. The pledge came after Israel cut off internet and other services in Gaza in preparation for its anticipated ground attack after three weeks of aerial assaults.

But before his visit, Elon Musk agreed that Starlink would only provide services in coordination with Israel’s Ministry of Communications.

On this agreement, Shlomo Karhi, Israel’s Minister of Communications, congratulated Elon Musk saying, “As a result of this significant agreement, Starlink satellite units can only be operated in Israel with the approval of the Israeli Ministry of Communications, including the Gaza Strip.”

Karhi said that as the State of Israel fights against Hamas – ISIS, this understanding is “vital, as is it for everyone who desires a better world, free of evil and free of anti-Semitism, for our children’s sake.”

“During your time in Israel,” added Karhi, “I hope that you will be able to gain valuable insight and that it will serve as a springboard for future endeavors, as well as enhance your relationship with the Jewish people and values we share with the entire world.”
