BIRD Aerosystems

G700 BIRD Aerosystems

BIRD Aerosystems, an Israeli firm that provides defense technology and solutions that protect fleets, armored vehicles, and ground assets of governments and related agencies, in collaboration with an Asian company that specializes in carrying out Defence projects in the GCC and Europe, has won a contract to provide its Airborne Missile Protection Systems for two VIP aircraft of a European customer. The Bombardier Global 7500 and Gulfstream G700 aircraft will be equipped with BIRD Aerosystems AMPS Airborne Missile Protection Systems and the SPREOS DIRCM, all installed in BIRD’s AEROSHIELD POD – the most lightweight and advanced Protection Pod.

The company did not specify which Asian company nor which European country is involved.

As part of the contract, BIRD’s AMPS and SPREOS will be certified on the two different aircraft in collaboration with the aircraft OEM, achieving a supplemental type certificate (STC) for the system installation on the aircraft.

Operationally deployed in dangerous conflict areas worldwide, BIRD’s AMPS Airborne Missile Protection System provides the most enhanced protection for military and civilian aircraft against the growing threat of ground-to-air missiles (MANPADS). The system is designed to automatically detect, verify, and foil SAM attacks through the effective use of Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) that jam the missile’s IR seeker and protect the aircraft. Queued by the Missile Warning Sensors (MWS), BIRD’s SPREOS (Self Protection Radar Electro-Optic System) DIRCM can uniquely confirm that it is a real missile and not a false alarm. At the same time, it precisely assesses the nature of the particular threat, tracking it and cueing an advanced QCL dual-band laser to defeat the threat.

BIRD Aerosystems’ boasts that SPREOS DIRCM ensures “optimal platform protection in the most effective way available today.”

Ronen Factor, Co-CEO and Founder at BIRD Aerosystems: “We are honored to seal another important contract with a leading European customer, and install our Missile Protection Systems, with the advanced SPREOS DIRCM, on the most advanced VIP aircraft available today. We are honored to collaborate with world-leading OEMs like Gulfstream and Bombardier, and confident that our systems will allow head-of-states using these aircraft to fly safely and uninterrupted”.
