Google. That’s all that needs to be said these days. Google is everything and everywhere. And it has come a long way since the company first started out as just another search engine.
Most smart phones and tablets in the world run on Goggle’s Android operating system. Who doesn’t have a G Mail account? Google has its own line of notebook computers, the Chromebook. And Google also lets you make pizza through the Internet with a home 3D printer.
O.K., so we made that one up. But you get the idea.

But one thing that has not changed in the twenty something years since Google eclipsed the first major Internet search engines like Yahoo and… whatever else there used to be, Google is the only search engine that anyone ever talks about. Businesses do Ad Word campaigns just for Google and only care about how their search engine optimization affects their Google ranking.
And have you ever heard anyone say, “lets Yahoo that,” or “you could just Bing it?”
So, you don’t even have to ask why we are ONLY giving you a story on Google’s top searches for the year in made in America.
Some good news here: no Covid, Coronavirus or even Omicron at the top of the list. No more elections, or January 6, or anything like that. People didn’t even chase after the top celebs like Miley Cyrus or Pete Davidson.
Coming in at number one for 2021 is of little surprise. It is NBA. Yes, the NBA is still the most popular sport that people are following in America. Of course it is! And it is the most searched for item on the Internet in America. At least according to Google… oh heck, why bother qualifying that statement.
DMX came in at number 2. This is because Americans were super interested in how to install DMX lights during all of those Covid lockdowns. Oh, wait, sorry, this DMX refers to the rapper whose real name is Earl Simmons.
But why was DMX so popular in 2021? Well, like us, you probably had no idea who he was and so you had to Yahoo him, uhm Google him. It seems that he died this year at the age of 50 from a drug overdose. DMX also made headlines over the years for getting arrested again and again.

Also, since his death, a number of people have come forward claiming to be his illegitimate child.
Coming in at number 3 was Gabby Petito. Petito is the young woman who disappeared this year while making a cross country trip in a van with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie. After a month long search her body was discovered September 19 at the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area of Bridger–Teton National Forest in Wyoming.
This led to a nationwide manhunt for Laundrie. After two months, Laundrie’s body was discovered in a Florida nature reserve. He was reported to have killed himself with a gunshot to the head.
This is probably why Brian Laundrie ended up being the fifth most searched for item in America in 2021. People everywhere googled him to get the latest updates on the hunt for the suspected murderer. And the whole Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie drama captivated the country for months, making headlines and being the opening story on TV newscasts.
So that just leaves us with number 4. That was Kyle Rittenhouse. Some people say that this kid literally got away with murder, two murders. He was acquitted in a Wisconsin trial for the shooting death of two people in Kenosha during a riot in August of 2020 which was sparked by a police shooting of a black man.
Rittenhouse, who was only 17 at the time, travelled from Illinois to Kenosha, claiming that he went there to help protect people’s property from the rioters.
The rest of the top ten included more traditional searches like “Mega Million,” the big nationwide lottery with jackpots in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Numer ten was “Squid Game.” You know, the hit Korean TV show that was on Netflix this year. Even if you didn’t see it yourself you must know all about it as everyone was talking about it this year. And if you have no idea what we are talking about, you must use Bing.
