The politically incorrect Bill Maher is certainly no stranger to making daring and controversial comments about just about everything under the sun. But now some people say that he may have gone too far with his most recent rant about Covid-19. On Friday’s installment of his HBO show Real Time Maher ended with a riff on what he see as overreactions to the Coronavirus crisis. And he also for some reason defended Sharon Osbourne.
The rant came at the end of his weekly show closing segment “New Rules.” Bill Maher decried what he called the “scared straight” approach which he feels was taken by the medical establishment to get people to take the Coronavirus more seriously. He also condemned the media for playing a part in the panic because it needs any excuse to increase viewership. “The more they can get you to stay inside and watch their panic porn,” said Maher, “The higher the ratings.”
“Even as things were getting better the reporting remained negative,” added Maher.

And he also put the blame on politicians who were concerned mostly with “covering their asses.”
But what Bill Maher failed to acknowledge was that the people in the know chose to err on the side of caution.
On the same program Bill Maher interviewed Sharon Osbourne who was recently fired from the daytime talk show “The Talk.” He agreed with Osbourne who insisted that she had not really done anything wrong and was punished just because she did not defend Meghan Markle. Instead she supported her friend Piers Morgan who was fired after having very public meltdown while slamming Markle.

I don’t want politics mixed in with my medical decisions. And when all of our news sources for Covid information have an agenda to spin us, you wind up with a badly misinformed population. #BreakingNews #ScaredStraight pic.twitter.com/xnPZOafziI

Maher accepted Osbourne’s spin on what had happened to her as being the result of political correctness and false accusations of racism. “He (Piers Morgan) was called a racist and lost his job, and you were called a racist and lost your job. Do I have it right?” Maher asked. “Who’s the racist and why? This is what I’m trying to figure out.”

But racism and some sort of over protectiveness of Markle on the part of the media are not even half of the story here. Morgan was reportedly not liked at work and combative. He also was unprofessional according to reports that he was engaging in a personal vendetta against Meghan Markle for rejecting his advances one night in a bar. And that happened long before she married Prince Harry.
And Sharon Osbourne also stood accused of using offensive and racist language when referring to her co-hosts. Asian American Julie Chen was once a panelist on “The Talk.” Osbourne reportedly referred to her derogatorily as “slanty eyes.” Sarah Gilbert is another one of Osbourne’s co-hosts. Gilbert is a lesbian and Osbourne is said to have called her a “p—y licker.”

Julie Chen is married to former CBS boss Les Moonves. Apparently Sharon Osbourne felt that Chen took advantage of having the network’s leader as her husband and once said of her, “I mean, who the f–k does slanty eyes think she is? She shouldn’t be pillow-talking with our boss.”
Osbourne also called Chen the “wonton.” Referring to Sarah Gilbert with derision she allegedly once said, “Why won’t the p—y licker do anything about the wonton?” and “Why won’t the fish-eater be part of this discussion? She’s the f–king executive producer.”
