Jared Leto in Dallas Buyers Club
Oscar winner Jared Leto is set to play Adam Neumann, the controversial founder of WeWork in a new mini-series for Apple television. His fellow Oscar winner Anne Hathaway is also cast in the new show titled “WeCrashed.” Leto and Neumann are about the same age and Leto certainly looks the part.
The series will be based on the hit podcast WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork. The limited series was created and written by Lee Eisenberg and Drew Crevello. Jared Leto has had many famous roles over the years, including playing DV villain The Joker in one movie. Leto won an Oscar for best supporting actor for the 2013 film “Dallas Buyers Club.” In 2012 Anne Hathaway won her Oscar for best supporting actress for playing Fantine in the movie Les Miserables.
Adam Neumann’s story should make for a compelling television drama. The Israeli born Neumann was forced out of WeWork, the company which he founded in 2010, at the end of 2019. After a meteoric rise the entrepreneur was brought down by allegations of serious drug use and sexual improprieties. These included stories of drug use and wild sexual activities taking place aboard private jets paid for by the company and while on company business. Women said that they were sexually assaulted during such flights.

The business model of WeWork was also called into question. Making small individual leases for sharing office space does not really work at times of recession. Real estate firms actually own the buildings in which they lease office space. And their clients have long term leases which must be held through any time of recession.
But Adam Neumann did quite well for himself in spite of all of this. He reportedly walked away with a $1.7 billion exit deal.
After his ouster, WeWork was forced to deal with sexual harassment suits. The company also delayed its planned IPO and laid off many employees.
Jared Leto can currently be seen starring alongside fellow Oscar winner Rami Malek and Denzel Washington in the movie “The Little Things” about the search for a serial killer.
