Fargo season 4, starring Jason Schwartzman and Chris Rock, premiers next Sunday on FX. The series is loosely based on the Oscar winning 1995 film of the same name from brothers Joel and Etan Cohen. The season was delayed from April because of the Covid-19 shutdown

The new season of “Fargo” is set in 1950 Kansas City. Chris Rock plays the head of an African American crime family which is in a struggle for control of the city with an Italian mob family.

Uzo Aduba, Jack Huston, Ben Whishaw, Jessie Buckley, Salvatore Esposito, Andrew Bird, Jeremie Harris, Gaetano Bruon, Anji White, Francesco Acquaroli, Emyri Crutchfield, and Amber Midthunder also star.

Jason Schwartzman plays an Italian monster which is fitting considering his famous family. His mother is Talia Shire, sister of Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, who also starred in the Godfather movies. His famous cousins, Sophia Coppola and Nicholas Cage have both won Oscars. His father, movie producer Jack Schwartzman, was the son of Jewish immigrants.

Jason Schwartzman told the NY Post,”‘Fargo’ is my favorite show. I remember that I was in the middle of Season 2 and I was thinking to myself, ‘It’s amazing that this exists, that it gets to be made. It feels like its doing what it wants but it also doesn’t feel reckless — there’s a real point to this.’

Considering his mother and Uncle’s Godfather connection, Jason Schwartzman obviously has a lot of feelings about now playing an Italian mobster himself. On this he said, “I’m half-Italian and half Polish-Jewish and I know a lot about my Italian side. Before we started shooting the series, I reached out to someone in my family I know has been archiving our history and I said, ‘What do you have?’ It really was an amazing experience to learn about my family … I was reading letters back and forth between my grandparents and my great-grandfather and there are very old home movies … seeing my grandfather and his brothers and my great-grandmother and great-grandfather on a trip to Italy when she must’ve been 16.”
