So was this decision politically motivated? There have been moves to boycott Ivanka Trump’s goods. #GrabYourWallet is a twitter campaign which is urging people to boycott businesses with ties to Donald Trump. Its leader, Shannon Coulter, is taking credit for this tweeting, “”Big news everyone. You did this. I am in awe #GrabYourWallet. Those who voted against Donald control $7 trillion in spending. Never forget it. Never forget our power. Together, we can change a lot.”
But Nordstrom says that this is not the case.
USA Today quoted a statement released by Nordstrom concerning the decision to dump the fashion line belonging to Ivanka Trump.”
“We’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance. We’ve got thousands of brands — more than 2,000 offered on the site alone. Reviewing their merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business,” said Nordstrom.
“Each year we cut about 10 percent and refresh our assortment with about the same amount. In this case, based on the brand’s performance we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”
So who should we believe here? Probably Nordstrom. It is doubtful that a silly hashtag campaign really did any damage to the Ivanka Trump Collection. We have to ask ourselves just how successful was the fashion line even before Ivanka Trump’s father ran for President.
The real issue here is that no matter how hard she may pretend to be her own woman, Ivanka Trump is not. Her entire career is based on trading on the family name and the fact that she was born with extremely good looks. In this way she is no different than the Kardashians and the Jenner sisters who only got famous for showing off their bodies on social media after starting off with famous parents.
Just do a Google search for Ivanka Trump images and you will see that the woman has shamelessly used her body to promote her brand, just like Kim Kardahsian has done. But Ivanka Trump has not shown that she has done anything more than lend her name to a bunch of junk made in Asia.
