Matt Lauer is staying with “The Today Show” through at least 2018. He just signed a contract extension which will pay him $20 million a year.

The Today Show needs Lauer. It has taken ratings hits over the years and has suffered with instability in in the show’s co-host seat. Since Katie Couric left there has been a round robin of sorts in the female’s position on The Today Show which saw Meredith Vieira and Ann Curry both depart and current co-host Savannah Guthrie is due to soon depart temporarily for maternity leave.
