The 37-year-old actor, the son of Michael and his ex-wife Diandra, was recently released from prison after almost seven years behind bars for drug offenses.

According to his friend, Noel Ashman, he is also “starting a charity that he’s very passionate about to help others who are drug-addicted.

“He learned his lesson and he’s now laser-focused. The whole experience taught him how important time is — and he doesn’t want to waste any more of it, ” Ashman said

Now Cameron is said he get his life back on track, having a job at a production company, hiring an acting coach and writing a book about his time behind bars, reported Female First.

Cameron is also dating Viviane Thibes, a Brazilian Yoga instructor. the couple mate when she was a cocktail waitress in NYC nightclubs as the Box, Lavo and the Pink Elephant. Michael Douglas, who was disappointed in his son for many years, admmited at the 2013 Emmy Awards when he picked up the statue for Lead Actor in A Miniseries or Movie, that he is disappointed in the U.S. prison system itself.

Backstage, Michael continued to the media. Here’s what he had to say:

“My son is in federal prison. He’s been a drug addict for a large part of his life. Part of the punishments — if you happen to have a slip, and this is for a prisoner who is nonviolent, as about a half-million of our drug-addicted prisoners are — he’s spent almost two years in solitary confinement. Right now I’ve been told that I can’t see him for two years. It’s been over a year now. And I’m questioning the system.”
“Obviously at first, I was certainly disappointed in my son. But I’ve reached a point now where I’m very disappointed with the system. And as you can see from what Attorney General Eric Holder has been doing regarding our prison system, I think things are going to be revived, regarding nonviolent drug addicts. My last comment on that is the United States represents 5 percent of the world’s population and we have 25 percent of the world’s prisoners.”
