California Company Sets Up “Beauty Contests” To Match Students With Colleges

collegefinder, University, USA

San Francisco based company Custom College Visits,  aims to help prospective students find the colleges that best fit with their academic and lifestyle interests by arranging meetings and activities that allow them to interact with specific people and places on each college campus.

Janice Caine, founder of Custom College Visits, says: “Time seems to pass faster and faster as our kids grow older, and the high school years seem to fly by. The frenzied life of a teenager offers little in the way of quality family time, especially during the junior and senior years of high school. Combine that with parents’ day-to-day responsibilities, and it’s understandable why there are few opportunities for bonding. So while the college road trip is not what most of us think of as a typical vacation, it’s a chance to do things together without the usual daily responsibilities.”

“Over the years we’ve heard from many of our clients that the customized tours that we planned for them brought about great conversations and wonderful memories, ” adds Janice Caine. “Of course, our main focus of these college tours is for students to gain an inside look at the culture and community of each campus that they visit.”

Just think of how important it is that both students and parents investigate not only the program itself, but safety and related issues as well:

  • 24/7 emergency staff assistance onsite in each location to respond to immediate health and safety needs of students
  • How much orientation will there be?
  • What is covered during the orientation?
  • Do they go into details about safety and security?
  • It there were to be an incident that put your student in harm’s way, how would the school administrators reach out to her?
  • Would she know what to do?
  • What is the protocol for students when they travel?
  • How and how often does the local office communicate with the students? On what issues?
  • If they will be living in the dorms, what is the neighborhood like? What type of security does the dorm have?
  • The drinking age in many countries is 18; what are the program rules about drinking?

Custom College Visits work with students and families from around the world to create custom designed itineraries for college worry-free visits and campus tours. Itineraries include meetings with faculty members and current students, interviews, overnight stays, and class visits, with complete travel logistics.

One of many parents said in letter published on the company website : “My son has chosen to attend The Ohio State—a big school that he would have never applied to or fallen in love with, had it not been for the amazing professors and students he had the opportunity to meet.”
