The outspoken creator of Sons of Anarchy has been splitting his time in recent months between Wales, where his FX medieval drama, The Bastard Executioner, is being filmed, and Los Angeles, where he keeps his writers room. In Sutter’s retelling,  Bastard wasn’t born out of a desire to do a period piece so much as it was to explore the moral complexities of the executioner profession…

Given Sutter’s track record — Sons was one of the biggest hits in FX’s history, and grew each of the seven seasons on which it was on — the project moved through the development pipeline at warp speed. He was joined in that process by executive producer Brian Grazer, who first brought the idea to Fox 21 TV Studios, and an ensemble cast that includes his wife and former Sons star Katey Sagal.
