The most popular baby names of the year in Israel were Muhammed and Tamar, the Population and Immigration Authority announced, according to Channel 2.
The annual round-up released by the government body ahead of the Rosh Hashanah holiday, revealed that 161, 081 babies were born over the past year, a decline of around 15, 000 from last year’s number.

Muhammed topped the name list for baby boys, then Yosef, Eitan, Uri, Daniel, Ariel, Noam, Omar and Itai.
For baby girls, Tamar was the most popular name, followed by: Noa, Talia, Shira, Yael, Adele, Sarah, Miriam, Avigail, and Leanne.
