A strong 6.9-magnitude underwater quake hit remote islands in Alaska on Sunday, but there was no tsunami warning, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
The quake had a depth of 11 kilometers and struck at 5.49 pm.

The quake struck 100 km (60 miles) southwest of Nikolski, the USGS said, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
