Instagram Now Offers Its Own Searches

Feature available on its desktop computer version.

Instagram

You can now search for hashtags, locations and user accounts directly through the Instagram website. This makes several third party services which offer such searches obsolete.

The new feature can be found as a search bar at the top of the Instagram webpage.

It is interesting that the company would go to the effort to improve the features on its website, given that it is known for being an app used on mobile devices. Also, people are using tablets and smartphones more and more as their primary devices for surfing the web and some experts have already begun to write obituaries for the desktop computer.

But for the time being, there is obviously still plenty of money to be made in the traditional worlds of software and Internet interfaces on desktop computers.

This is why Facebook offered its service through a website in addition to its app in the first place. Think of all those people who surf the web while at work when the boss is not looking.

“While Instagram.com is designed to be complementary to the mobile apps, it’s important to the global conversations that happen on Instagram, ” an Instagram spokesperson said.
