The Israeli government today revealed that its navy had forced the lead boat of a 4 vessel flotilla to the Gaza Strip to change course. The boat, the Marianne, was led to the port of Ashdod in Israel.
Israel has maintained an embargo over Gaza since the terrorist organization Hamas took control of the area in a coup in 2006. This was the second attempt to send a flotilla there to break the embargo. Its organizers claimed to be trying to bring medical and other relief supplies to the people of the Gaza Strip, but Israel has never limited the amount of such supplies entering the area.
The Israeli military released a statement explaining that, “When it became clear that the passengers had no intention to cooperate and proceed to the port of Ashdod, it was decided to seize the vessel and to transport it to Ashdod port.”
Israel’s Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated, “the determined and effective detention of the passengers who tried to enter Gaza’s shores illegally. This flotilla is nothing but a display of hypocrisy and lies, which only helps the terrorist organization Hamas and ignores all the atrocities in our region.”
Israel’s Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said, “This flotilla was not a humanitarian one and was not concerned for anyone’s welfare. The participants’ desire was to continue the campaign of Israel’s de-legitimization. This is part of the spectacle of hypocrisy and lies of various bodies in the world, which prefer to strengthen and support a ruthless terrorist organization like Hamas. There is no siege on Gaza, and Israel is the only entity in the region that allows a constant entry of various commodities and the carrying out of humanitarian projects. But we have no intention of allowing any entity to smuggle weapons that will be directed against us.”
The group tweeted, “Israeli occupied forces intercepted Marianne. The boat is currently en route to Ashdod port.”
Roseanne Barr responded saying, “they try2 sneak in concrete2 rebuild terror tunnels, tho they know they will b turned back-just warmongering theatre.”
