The new building has been designed by the firm Bjarke Ingels Group. It will rise to 1, 340 feet and have more than 80 stories. It will hold about 2.8 million square feet of office space.
2 WTC will be the third tallest building in New York.
Ingels said in a statement, “To complete this urban reunification [the] tower will feel equally at home in Tribeca and the World Trade Center. From Tribeca, the home of lofts and roof gardens, it will appear like a vertical village of singular buildings stacked on top of each other.”
“From the World Trade Center, the individual towers will appear unified, completing the colonnade of towers framing the 9/11 Memorial. Horizontal meets vertical. Diversity becomes unity, ” he added.
“The design [of 2 WTC] looks like a vertical village of city blocks stacked on top of each other with gradual overhangs that, as each building block gets thinner, the overhang becomes longer, ” he explained.
