Eating The Placenta After Birth Has No Health Benefits

This according to a new study from Northwestern University.

placenta

A new study by researchers at Northwestern University has revealed that there are no health benefits involved in eating a baby’s placenta after it is born. First of all GROSS, but who would ever think of doing such a thing.

Well celebrities like January Jones and Kourtney Kardashian have done so and have blogged that it is somehow healthy for a woman. Once again GROSS, and isn’t eating the placenta something akin to cannabalism? Or is it not cannibalism to eat something that was once part of your own body?

“There are a lot of subjective reports from women who perceived benefits, but there hasn’t been any systematic research investigating the benefits or the risk of placenta ingestion, ” said corresponding study author Dr. Crystal Clark. “The studies on mice aren’t translatable into human benefits.”

“Our sense is that women choosing placentophagy, who may otherwise be very careful about what they are putting into their bodies during pregnancy and nursing, are willing to ingest something without evidence of its benefits and, more importantly, of its potential risks to themselves and their nursing infants, ” said lead author Cynthia Coyle, a Feinberg faculty member and a psychologist.

“There are no regulations as to how the placenta is stored and prepared, and the dosing is inconsistent, ” Coyle said. “Women really don’t know what they are ingesting.”

Once again GROSS. Whether it is your own or someone else’s, why in the hell would anyone ever want to eat a human body part? This is just another example of the so called alternative medicine run amok.

So people please just stick to what the trained professionals –DOCTORS — tell you to do and stop listening to idiot celebrities who are only famous for their good looks.
