‘Cannibal In The Jungle’: Animal Planet Brings The Un-True Story Of American Cannibal Timothy Darrow And The Indonesian Hobbit Legend To Television

Was Sunday night’s TV movie “The Cannibal in the Jungle” Which aired on Animal Planet’s latest installment of Monster Week based on a true story? People are wondering.
Whether or not it is more fiction than fact, one thing is certain. The movie was a shocker. The network was forced to warn its viewers about watching it ahead of time.

In fact, for its entire Monster Week line up it released a press statement with the headline, ”

The real “hobbits” were tiny human-like creatures that lived in the jungles of Indonesia. They supposedly went extinct 12, 000 years ago. But there have been recent sightings of them. Are they still out there?

“The Cannibal In The Jungle” is the name of an untrue story Animal Planet aired. Why it is so interesting? Because the two hour movie combines the fictional story of Dr. Timothy Darrow and real scientific discoveries. From the synopsis:

“Dr. Timothy Darrow is a scientist who is convicted of eating and killing two of his workmates in the Indonesian jungle back in 1977. Dr. Timothy Darrow blames the murders of his workmates on an ape/human-like creature during his trial. The case becomes known worldwide as The American Cannibal case. Could Darrow’s claims be true? Is he an innocent man convicted of murder or is he a delusional killer? Tune in to Animal Planet tonight at 9/8c.”

Animal Planet teases that it will follow a team of scientists on an expedition deep in the jungle of Flores, Indonesia, a remote place that claims to have hobbits: another species of humans that stand three-feet-tall.

If you missed it and think that you have a strong enough stomach for this sort of thing then you will have a second chance to see the movie. There will be an encore presentation Thursday May 27th at 9 PM Eastern time.

Pretty sure the actor who played Dr. Timothy Darrow while in prison is British-American actor Richard Brake.

Here we go again with Animal Planet and their “mockumentaries” with horrible actors parading as scientists and making up stories about (hobbits, this time), mermaids, and Bigfoot. I remember when AP was about ANIMALS, and had real TV. Some exec is going to get fired over there for taking the channel in this bs direction. It’s fantasy, garbage TV, and it just sucks.
