[VIDEO] Amy Winehouse Family Condemns New Documentary Film About Her

The family of the late, great singer,  Amy Winehouse is unhappy with a new documentary being produced about her life. The movie is simply titled “Amy.”

The British Jewish singer who had long suffered from substance abuse literally drank herself to death in 2011 at the age of 28.

In a statement to People Magazine, the Winehouse family complained that the film’s director Asif Kapadia portrays them in a poor light. They were specifically annoyed with the movie’s assertion that they somehow abandoned Amy in her hour of need.

“It is both misleading and contains some basic untruths, ” read the Winehouse family’s statement.

“The narrative is formed by the testimony of a narrow sample of Amy’s associates, many of whom had nothing to do with her in the last years of her life. Counter views expressed to the filmmakers did not make the final cut.”

Amy’s father Mitch Winehouse also told England’s “The Sun on Sunday, ” “I felt sick when I watched it for the first time. Amy would be furious. This is not what she would have wanted.”

In response, a spokesperson for the film told People, “We came on board with the full backing of the Winehouse family and we approached the project with total objectivity.

“When we were approached to make the film, we came on board with the full backing of the Winehouse family and we approached the project with total objectivity, as with Senna. During the production process, we conducted in the region of 100 interviews with people that knew Amy. The story that the film tells is a reflection of our findings from these interviews.”

“Amy, ” which is set to be released in July, will have its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month.
