Theo Epstein Is So Mean, He Hits Mascots

On Friday, at the South Bend Cubs’ opener in their own renovated park—with a new organization, Chicago Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein was honored with throwing out the first pitch.

Hitting was the Cubs’ mascot, Clark the Cub.

It happened.

The furry Clark stepped to the plate, did a little dance, showing off on the first day of the season, and then, believe it or not, Epstein brushed him off with the pitch.

We’re providing you with two takes on the same pitch, one of which, the longer one, missed the actual brush off. The other one, above, is almost too brief to show what actually happened.

How mean can Epstein be? Mean enough. Now, imagine the Cubs don’t make it to the World Series trhis season—as has been their practice since early in the last century—how mean will he be then?
