Yes, But Is It Kosher for Passover? Ralph Lauren’s Daughter Dylan Readying Candy Bar for Easter

Dylan Lauren

Dylan Lauren, owner of Dylan’s Candy Bar, the largest candy store in the world, told this week that Easter is her favorite holiday. Easter is the second highest grossing season for the candy bar, after Christmas.

Dylan Lauren founded Dylan’s Candy Bar in 2001, inspired by “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” which she saw on her fifth birthday. She probably doesn’t sample her own product too often, seeing as she was on the US Weekly list of Top 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers in 2007.

“Planning for Easter begins a year in advance of the holiday, ” said Lauren, whose father, designer Ralph Lauren started out his life as Ralph Lifshitz from the Bronx. “We also set up our Easter statements in-stores right after Valentine’s Day. We find that there are so many Easter candies customers buy ahead of time, even when the holiday is still two months away.”

Dylan’s mother, Ricky Anne Loew-Beer, is the daughter of an Austrian Catholic mother and a Jewish father. Daddy Ralph kept it a secret from his parents that his new bride was only half Jewish, and on the wrong side, to boot.

“My favorite holiday is Easter and my favorite animal is the rabbit, so we are always on the hunt for candy rabbits in different shapes, sizes and flavors, ” Dylan reported. “This season I love the gorgeous Frey chocolate colored rabbits we are selling in-stores and online.”

Incidentally, the Easter Bunny is related more to Purim than to Passover, seeing as the origin of the word Easter is in Eastre, or Eostre, or Ashtoret or… Esther! All of which are names of the goddess of Spring and of Fertility.

The legend of the Easter Bunny bringing eggs was brought to America by settlers from southwestern Germany, where it was known as “Oschter Haws.” Over the past 200 years, the Easter Bunny has become the most commercially recognized symbol of Easter.

Well, they can’t quite eat a chocolate Jesus, can they?
