david-duchovny_GETTY

David Duchovny, fresh from promoting his first novel “Holy Cow, ” may revive his characters in 90s hits X-Files and possibly Twin Peaks as these favorites from 20 years ago are going to get a new lease on life, as reported by io9.

Duchovny discussed his novel with Carolyn Kellogg of the LA. Times. Holy Cow is a tale of a literary bovine, named appropriately enough, Elsie Bovary, whose friends are a turkey and a a Yiddish speaking pig in upstate New York. The three want to travel to a place in the world where they are not in danger of being eaten, and the story is described as a “fable for adults.” While its theme is vegetarianism, Duchovny says it is not polemical. Duchovny said his editor Jonathan Galassi is reasonable, and not a person he imagines pitching the film idea to, as he confessed to the LA Times, an imaginary producer who would warn, “You can’t make animated film about Muslims and Jews not eating meat.” David Duchovny’s mother was Episcopalian, but his father Amran is from Russian Jewish extraction and worked for The Jewish Committee.

Fox television confirmed that it is bringing back the X-Files, along with Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, although talks have been logistical, according to io9, since all are involved with other projects. This news comes as Twin Peaks is scheduled to return for a limited release on Showtime in 2016, and both directors David Lynch and Mark Frost are involved.

Kellogg asked Duchovny about his involvement with the X-Files and if his character, transvestite DEA agent Denise Bryson will come back to Twin Peaks. He told the LA Times, “(Concerning the X-Files) Seems like it. I would bet on it if I were you. I think ‘Twin Peaks’ is happening for sure. I hope my character comes back. I think she does. And then ‘X Files‘ — Fox made some kind of shadowy announcement… Certainly something’s happening. Something’s brewing. It’s like the Eagles’ greatest hits tour … by me.”
