Tinsel town stuffing dollars in the belt of the Windy City Mayor, Rahm Emanuel. These dollars won’t get blown away by campaign finance rules, which have been relaxed in mayoral races, according to the Chicago Tribune. Under Illinois state law, once a candidate contributes $100, 000 to his or her campaign within one year of an election, contribution limits don’t apply. This has been a boon to Rahm Emanuel, who has raked in huge amounts from Hollywood donors, thanks to the fact his brother Ari Emanuel is co-CEO of William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, one of the most high-profile talent agencies in showbiz.
Rahm Emanuel got donations of $50, 000 from Steven Spielberg, $50, 00 from Geffen, $10, 000 from Jeffrey Katzenberg and $100, 000 from Cheryl Saban, wife of Israeli born creator of Power Rangers, Haim Saban, who tried to donate $400, 000, but Emanuel turned most of it down because of a self-imposed limit.

Of the $760, 000 he collected, $731, 900 would not have been permitted under the old campaign finance rules. However, the competition is also under the same lax regulations. Willie Wilson gave $1 million to his own campaign. and Cook County Commissioner, Jesus “Chuy” Garcia received a $250, 000 donation from Service Employees International Union Healthcare fund.
