Israeli opera singer Chen Reiss from Holon performed at the Christmas Mass at the Vatican’s St. Peter Basilica. Around 8, 000 people attended, with many others standing outside. An estimated 700 million Catholics watched the program worldwide. When Pope Francis was told the singer was Israeli, apparently the Pope said, “I approve very much because Mary was also Jewish.” according to Ynet. Reiss was scheduled for the program by those who were impressed by her performances at the Vienna Opera House.
Reiss said, “It was a very exciting position to be in… without a doubt the most thrilling performance I have ever had.”
